Neon Day Gecko - Phelsuma klemmeri
Habitat:
Found in bamboo forests usually on medium-sized bamboo
Range:
coast of northern Madagascar
Activity Cycle:
diurnal (as the name suggests)
Features:
head and neck are greenish yellow with an abdomen that is mainly turquoise. They have a flattened body that allows them to enter cracks in the bamboo.
Size:
one of the smallest of the day geckos, growing to about 3 inches
Social Structure:
they like to live in small groups with one male for 2-3 females
Life Expectancy:
around 7 years
Diet:
feeds on various insects and other invertebrates as well as soft sweet fruit, pollen and nectar
Reproduction:
Unlike most geckos, neon day geckos are not egg gluers, they lay their eggs in bamboo hollows. Eggs should hatch between 40-60 days and the young are around 1 inch long.

Interesting Facts:
- They prefer yellow bamboo canes because they camouflage better
- They have a fixed plate covering their eyes which they clean with their tongue
- Sexes can be easily distinguished by the orange color around the femoral pores of the males
